Welcome To Mario Sperry Jiu Jitsu
Sensei Mario Sperry (6th degree Jiu Jitsu black belt) is involved with martial arts for over 45 years. He received his black belt in Jiu Jitsu from the legendary Carlson Gracie and as part of Carlson’s competition team he won several tournaments and championships both in local and international competitions. He is regarded as one of the main titleholders of this historic team, which included many famous athletes like Ricardo Liborio, Murilo Bustamante, Victor Belfort, Amauri Bitetti and others.
Sperry opened his first Jiu Jitsu school, Sul Jiu Jitsu, back in 1994 with his long time partner and friend, Sensei Walter Mattos, a six degree Jiu Jitsu black belt, under Grand Master Sergio Penha. Along with Sensei Walter Mattos, Sperry has currently 12 Sul Jiu Jitsu affiliates in Brazil. Sensei Mario has already worked with more than 15,000 students and formed over 500 black belts with many of them becoming World Jiu Jitsu Champions and opened gyms all over the world.
In 2000, Mario Sperry founded Brazilian Top Team (BTT), a Jiu jitsu and MMA academy. In less than two years, specialized media had already considered BTT one of the best MMA teams in the world. BTT has formed many champions worldwide, including Rodrigo “Minotauro”Nogueira, Ricardo Arona and Paulo Filho.
Over the years Mario fought in the best shows of the world, in almost all continents: North America, South America, Europe, Middle East, Asia and Oceania. He is a 3x Jiu Jitsu World Champion, 3x Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Champion and is the athlete with the most appearances on ADCC, which is considered to be the Olympics of Grappling. On ADCC, Mario has 6 titles, with his last Super Fight in the tournament occurring in 2015. His MMA record is 17-4-0.
Mario also worked for six months as Head Coach of the Blackzilians, in 2012 (one of the biggest MMAs teams in the world, from 2011 to 2016).
In November 2012, he received The Florida’s Best MMA Coach of the year Award. He was also awarded in 2000 FIGHTER OF THE DECADE by NAGA (NORTH AMERICAN GRAPPLING ASSOCIATION).
Mario Sperry’s instructional DVDs are known worldwide. His six DVD series are considered to be the best of the industry.
In 1993, Sperry has a bachelor degree in Economics, from UERJ – Rio de Janeiro State University.

Sensei Mario Sperry has been for many years an icon in the Jiu Jitsu community. He is a black belt under legendary Carlson Gracie where he was one of the main title holders of the glorious Carlson Gracie competition team. As a competitor Mario Sperry is a 3x Brazilian Champion, 3x World Champion and won many ADCC championships and super fights.
Kia and Tiago
Kia and Tiago are our Kids program coaches. Tiago is a purple belt who has been training with Mario Sperry for over 5 years and Kia is a blue belt, also an avid student of our gym. They team up to provide the right level of attention to kids, fostering a fun environment where kids learn self defense, discipline and focus. They are passionate about helping our young students grow and develop.
